Awesometacular!

Good things that have happened (which may or may not be food related):

  • I drove to what I thought was Burger King. When I got there, it was KFC. KFC is tasty.
  • I learned I like bananas. They are also tasty, especially with strawberries, and even more especially with strawberries and dream topping
  • I have remembered far enough in advance to post birthday cards to Australia, so that for the first time ever they may well get there on time. This should be a pleasant surprise for everyone involved.
  • I learned the words to a line in Ben Folds song that I have wondered about for years but never got around to looking up

To complete the goodness of the last hour or so, I need to start learning law by osmosis. I shall spend the next couple of hours trying to work out if this is possible, and how I can do it, instead of actually studying.

The Origins

A long long time ago, when I was yet again boring my friend Travis with another dull tale, we chanced upon the quick fix that will make ANY story interesting. If you feel your audience is fading away, you can draw them back instantly by jumping in with:

"... and then I found $20!"

We decided that noone could fail to be impressed by this. $5 or $10 just aren't enough money to do anything of substance with. Finding $50 is the stuff of fantasy. Finding $20 is just the right amount of good luck, without inducing extreme envy from the other party, to capture their attention. If you live in a country whose currency does not happen to be dollars, even better! Your story is now exotic.

Try it, it really does work! And I should know, because I tell an awful lot of boring stories :-)
